High court welcomes summer law externs

Two law students will be working at the CNMI Supreme Court this summer as law externs after completing their first year of law school.
Gordon Anderson of the University of California Davis School of Law and Charles William Hoff of the University of Texas School of Law (Austin) will be closely assisting the justices in legal research and writing over the summer.
Anderson, originally from Los Angeles, earned a bachelor’s degree in English from the University of California, Los Angeles. He is a certified volleyball coach and hopes to practice international law after he obtains his juris doctor degree in 2019.
Hoff also attended UCLA where he earned a bachelor’s degree in Philosophy in 2015. He is a proficient reader of Mandarin and French and has years of experience as a sound-mixer engineer. He is a member of the Texas Business Law Society and Texas Law Pro Bono Pledge.
“Over the past decade the Supreme Court has welcomed law students to learn firsthand about the role of appellate courts in the justice system,” said Chief Justice Alexandro C. Castro. “In addition, we encourage the students to observe trial court proceedings, such as jury trials, arraignments, and motions hearings.”
The high court requires the students to complete a writing project during their externship. (NMI Judiciary)
