The NMI chapter of an activist organization held a free health screening for the public last Sunday in front of the YCO Hardware Store along Beach Road in Garapan.
According to U.S. Pinoys for Good Governance chair Dr. Celia Lamkin, they typically offers this kind of service quarterly but this year’s first screening was conducted late.
Lamkin said they seek to increase community awareness of health issues and to educate each one of what they can do to avoid health complications.
Lamkin said most people don’t get checked as often as they should and may not even know that they suffer high blood pressure or high blood sugar. Not being aware of this could possibly result in many complications, Lamkin told Saipan Tribune.
According to her, over 60 people availed of the services that were offered last Sunday.
Lamkin, who was pleased with how many showed up and availed of the organization’s free health screening services, shared with Saipan Tribune how she initiated the first free health screening on island and she is pleased with the progress it has been making over the years. “I am very pleased that so many organizations are doing it now.”
Last Sunday, the group did Body Mass Index check, blood sugar check, blood pressure check, health consultation, and breakfast for participants.
Lamkin also acknowledged Marianas Medical Center for volunteering. According to Lamkin, MMC has been assisting their organization since the first health screening they conducted.
USP4GG will be conducting another health screening for the public, but no date has been set yet.
