The 2017 Dove Women’s Spring League concluded last Sunday with the organizing Northern Mariana Islands Football Association honoring the top individual performers and outstanding teams in all three divisions at the Chacha Oceanview Middle School Field.
NMIFA Executive Committee member Patricia Coleman handed the perpetual trophies to Division A champion Paire Football Club and Division B top finisher Shirley’s Football Club. Paire prevailed against three other teams after posting an 8-1-1 win-draw-loss record in the three-round robin competition, while Shirley’s earned a 6-1-1 slate in the double-round robin contest to take the division title against four other squads.
In the Masters Division, TanHoldigs FC was awarded the Fair Play trophy, while MP United and MP United 2 brought home the Best in Uniform and Team Vibrant awards, respectively. Topnotch got the Best Tactical Team plum, while Matansa and Kanoa FC secured the Team Grit and Team Spirit awards.
In the individual category, MP United-TanHoldings’ Gillian Villagomez gained the Golden Boot award for scoring 11 goals in Division A, while Paire’s Carla Ballesteros bagged the Golden Glove plum.
In Division A, Shirley’s Katherine Magat got the Golden Boot medal for recording six goals, while her teammate Irish Viray was named Golden Boot awardee.
“Congratulations to all the winners and to all the players who participated in the league this season. We look forward to seeing you in the Fall league and we hope you will also encourage other female player to join us,” Coleman said.
“We would like to acknowledge Dove for their generous sponsorship to our league and to NMIFA for making sure that female players are also given an equal opportunity to play soccer,” she added.
