Saipan International School’s Class of 2017 is noteworthy because three students have been named to the top of the class: class valedictorian Emily Li Frink and class salutatorians Natalie Diane Hardt and Cerinn Hwang.

The three honorees led the school’s commencement ceremony for its high school students last Saturday, May 20, 2017, at the Royal Taga Hall of the Saipan World Resort. The 30 successful graduates were all present to march and receive their diplomas.

In his speech, SIS headmaster Ron Snyder said the members of the Class of 2017 “are special men and women who engaged and excelled in ambitious academic programs. Graduation from high school is the first step on a long road, it is ending your life as a child and the beginning of you life as an adult.”

Frink, who also got advanced placement honors, will go to the University of Washington. Snyder described Frink as “not your typical” valedictorian; she is known by her classmates as nonchalant, laid-back and “chill”.

Hardt is going to Pepperdine University while Hwang is going to the University of Pennsylvania.

SIS HS team leader Keith Tessen described Hardt as a diligent worker, reflected in her superb GPA, and a fantastic writer.

Hwang was also accepted into the Benjamin Franklin scholar program, an impressive achievement for an incoming freshman and the one and only National Merit Scholar in the CNMI.
