BREAKING NEWS: San Nicolas is acting Labor secretary

Share

Labor Enforcement Division director Gil San Nicolas was appointed as acting secretary on Friday.

San Nicolas’ appointment was made on the same day when Gov. Ralph DLG Torres accepted the courtesy resignation of now former secretary Edith Deleon Guerrero.

San Nicolas would remain in an acting capacity until Torres appoints Deleon Guerrero’s permanent replacement.

Torres, in a statement Friday, thanked Deleon Guerrero for her years of service at Labor and wished her the best in her future endeavors.

“[She] has worked very hard and has been intricately involved with the complex events following federal control over immigration in the CNMI. I wish her the best in her future endeavors and commend her for the work she has accomplished.”

Deleon Guerrero was part of the CNMI panel in the 902 talks last year; the report is already with congressional leaders for review.

Her department was also at the forefront in implementing local labor laws and investigating the alleged treatment of workers who entered the CNMI as tourists.
