Sendai High School pushes for creation of exchange program
The Sendai Ikuei Gakuen High School in Norita, Japan, has asked for the creation of an exchange program with public schools in Saipan.
Sendai High School principal Takehiko Katoh met with Saipan Mayor David M. Apatang yesterday to discuss plans to start an exchange program with the Saipan Mayor’s Office.
According to Katoh, Sendai has exchange programs with 100 schools in 13 countries across the world.
According to Apatang, the student exchange partnership will most likely be established for the next school year.
Apatang said that student exchange programs like these are always welcome in order for Japanese students to learn about Japan’s ties with the island’s history.
According to Apatang, the Japanese students would gain knowledge about the cultural heritage of the Commonwealth and the how Japan and Saipan share a common background.
Apatang and his staff will continue to communicate with Katoh and his board members to organize the exchange program and both sides will strive to finalize the program by the start of school year 2017-2018. (Kimberly A. Bautista)
