Man allegedly beats up wife, cuts her hair, damages cars
A 57-year-old man allegedly beat up his common-law wife who has a disability, cut her hair, and damaged door louvers, two vehicles, and other items at their home in Kagman 3 last Saturday night.
Police said the victim had bruises on her mouth and inner lower lip when the suspect, Simeon Selepeo Fitial, allegedly grabbed her by the mouth.
Fitial was arrested for assault with a dangerous weapon, assault and battery, assault, disturbing the peace, and criminal mischief. His bail was set Monday at $20,000 cash. Preliminary hearing will be on May 25 at 9am.
A police officer responded to the couple’s house on Saturday at 10:08pm and saw damage on the windows of a van that was parked next to the house’s door. Fitial allegedly admitted causing the damage. The officer handcuffed Fitial and brought him to the patrol car.
The officer, who called for medics and interviewed the injured victim, later saw damage to the front and rear windshields of another vehicle that was parked at the eastern part of the house.
The officer learned that Fitial damaged an Acer computer and over 30 louvers in two bedrooms, kitchen, and bathroom.
The victim told police that she kicked out Fitial from her house on Friday as he has been beating her up. As she was getting ready to sleep on Saturday night, Fitial, who was yelling outside, threatened to kill her. Fitial managed to forcibly open the back door and, once inside, broke several items and louvers.
The victim shouted for help from neighbors. She tried to use the landline to call police, but Fitial allegedly cut the phone line.
Fitial allegedly took scissors from a drawer, grabbed the victim by her mouth, punched her stomach, and started cutting her hair. Fitial threatened to make her bald. Afraid for her life, she kept still.
She asked for water because her heart was beating fast, but instead he poured a cup of water on her face twice.
Fitial then tried to exit the back door of the house when a police officer arrived.
