CNMI Drug Enforcement Task Force arrested in Gualo Rai on Friday afternoon a suspected supplier of methamphetamine on Saipan.

Xinqiang Zheng, 24, also known as Shawn, was taken before Superior Court Associate Judge Joseph N. Camacho yesterday for bail hearing on charges of trafficking and possession of a controlled substance.

Camacho imposed a $200,000 cash bail.

Assistant public defender Tillman Clark was appointed as counsel for Zheng. Assistant attorney general Jonathan Wilbersheild appeared for the government.

Police said a cooperating defendant had disclosed that a Chinese man known as Shawn is known to be one of the main suppliers of “ice” on the island. During a “buy-walk operation” last April 12, the cooperating defendant allegedly managed to buy $750 worth of “ice” from Zheng, who used an associate to hand over the drugs.

During a second “buy-walk operation” last April 25, the cooperating defendant was able to purchase “ice” worth $1,250 from Zheng.
