Employees of the Department of Commerce and Joeten-Kiyu Public Library were recognized Tuesday as part of the ongoing Public Service Recognition Week, particularly those who continue to serve the people of the CNMI with utmost responsibility, loyalty and integrity.
Commerce Secretary Mark O. Rabauliman said that employees are an organization’s valuable asset “but too often ‘thank you’ goes unsaid. Now, we thank you for years of dedication, hard work, and awesome customer service.”
Employees who were recognized have worked in the department for 10, 20, and 30 years.
Gov. Ralph DLG Torres congratulated the awardees but gave special mention to the department’s Enforcement section. “It is very important that when you guys go out there, the authority you have when you give a citation is one that [no one] can question,” he said.
Lt. Gov. Victor B. Hocog, on the other hand, called for unity and working together.
Erlinda C. Naputi, acting library director of JPKL, said the Joeten-Kiyu Public Library is the state library of the CNMI, established in 1991. In 2016, it served a total of 69,963 patrons and circulated 42,959 library materials. Its Bookmobile served a total number of 25,573 patrons. The JPKL information technology center served 5,567 patrons.
“The library is a very important part of our education. It is more important nowadays because we are just so hooked on day to day activities, our apps, our phones that we forget to appreciate books…and the overall experience of going to the library,” Torres said.
