CHCC board filled soon

It seems the Commonwealth Healthcare Corp.’s five board of director slots would soon be filled after Gov. Ralph DLG Torres told Saipan Tribune that he already has names in mind for the positions.
So far, two of the five slots are already occupied. Former senator William Cing, the resident director of the Tinian Health Center, represents Tinian on the CHCC board, while Dr. Larry B. Hocog represents Rota.
The last three vacant positions are for Saipan representatives.
According to Torres, the names would be made public by the end of this week.
Torres told Saipan Tribune that he would be sending the letter for two of the three candidates he has in mind since they have already been contacted. Torres mentioned that the two candidates he has spoken with are willing to take on the responsibilities.
“Until I personally send a letter to the CNMI Senate, it is not public. Those that will be appointed will definitely be assisting the administration,” said Torres.
Aside from saying that two of the three candidates have already accepted his offer, the governor did not disclose their qualifications.
“We actually already spoke to two of them. Both of them already said they would accept, so I need to officially appoint them, which would be by the end of this week.”
CNMI Public Law 19-78, which was signed into law by Torres last Jan. 14, 2017, transformed the Commonwealth Healthcare Corp.’s board from an advisory role to a governing one, giving it control over the corporation’s daily operations, functions, and activities.
Immediately after the passage of the law, Torres urged the Legislature to enact measures to ensure that the board would adhere to the regulations of the Centers for Medicaid and Medicare Services. The Legislature has yet to come up with such measures.
