3 robberies in 3 days

A man armed with an axe robbed a poker arcade in Kagman 3 and fled on a bicycle while two men armed with a knife and a gun robbed two groups of tourists in separate incidents in Marpi. The three robberies happened over the weekend and on Monday.

In the poker arcade robbery, the suspect ran off with an undetermined amount of cash from the KH Poker in Kagman 3, said acting police spokesman Sgt. Jason Tarkong. Police recovered the suspect’s axe, some cash, and the bicycle used as a getaway vehicle.

The suspect was described as about 5’9” tall, dark skinned, and had curly hair. He was wearing a black long-sleeved sweater with a hood, a black cloth covering his face, a pair of sunglasses, and a pair of blue jeans.

Police responded to the robbery incident at KH Poker on Saturday at 6:04am and learned from witnesses that the suspect came into the arcade and shouted, “You guys, relax” at a male customer.

The suspect then used the axe to break into the cashier’s room, prompting the cashier to hide in the bathroom. The robber then walked out of the establishment after taking some cash.

Witnesses saw the suspect flee the area on a bicycle going north on Gaogao Drive. Police recovered the axe, bicycle, and some cash along Gaogao Drive.

In the Marpi robbery case, two men, including one armed with a knife, robbed a 24-year-old Asian woman and her boyfriend of cash and other items at the Last Command Post on Friday afternoon.

Tarkong said the victims lost a bag that contained $60 cash, two snorkels, two swim masks, a pair of black slippers, a white Wi-Fi modem, credit cards, and identification cards.

The first suspect was described as possibly a local male, about 5’5” tall, medium built, and had short curly black hair and stained teeth.

The second suspect was not described.

Police responded at 3:31pm to the incident at the parking lot of Last Command Post and found out that the woman was in the passenger seat of their rental car in the west parking lot and her boyfriend was taking pictures when the incident happened.

Two men approached the car while the woman was on her phone. One suspect opened the front passenger door where the victim was sitting, pointed a knife at her, demanded money, and grabbed her bag.

The suspects hen fled aboard a white car.

In the second Marpi robbery case, five Asian female tourists were victimized at Banzai Cliff on Monday morning.

Tarkong said items stolen were over $1,200 in cash, identification cards, a Chanel handbag, cell phones, and bank cards.

One suspect was described as a heavyset male wearing a pink shirt and armed with a knife. The second suspect was described as a skinny male armed with a rifle.

Tarkong said police responded to the robbery incident at Banzai Cliff at 6:53am and learned that the five tourists arrived in two car rentals—a yellow Camaro and a pink Mustang—at the area at 6:30am to take pictures.

A red Toyota car then drove up and two male suspects came out and threatened the tourists with a knife and rifle. The tourists surrendered their purses. The robbers then poked holes into the tires of the victims’ cars before fleeing the scene.

Tarkong said that no one was injured.

The Department of Public Safety and the NMI Crime Stoppers are seeking the public’s help for information about the suspects in the three robbery cases.
