Sasamoto swipes Amigo’s July Ace award
Sasamoto first ruled the qualifying tournament on July 8, beating 13 other players and then topped the field anew in last Sunday’s competition at the Kingfisher Golf Links
In the qualifier, he posted a gross score of 84 that adjusted into a field low net of 65. Dan Quitugua scratched a raw 80 and ended up qualifying just a stroke behind Sasamoto, while John Matsumoto penciled in a gross 86 that earned him the third spot after posting a 68 net.
Other qualifiers were Sherlyn Jones (89 gross/73 net), Frank Sablan (81/73), Diding Hocog (99/75), Joe Sablan Jr. (92/75), Joe Tudela (87/75), and Dr. Larry Hocog (97/80).
Last Sunday’s final round took place under a continuous drizzle, but 11 players still braved the tough weather.
However, the 10 of them could not catch Sasamoto, who had his gross 96 shaved down to net 77 that was good enough to nab the win. He finished with a 142, seven strokes in front of co-runners-up Matsumoto and Frank Sablan. Matsumoto grossed 99 last Sunday for a 81 net, while Sablan carded a raw 84 that worked into a 68 net.
Diding Hocog duplicated her qualifying mark and settled for fourth place with a total of 150, while other notables included Jones (155), Tudela (157) and Dr. Larry Hocog (169).
