JRM to hold Programmatic Agreement Workshop
ASAN, Guam—Joint Region Marianas will hold its annual Marine Corps Buildup Programmatic Agreement Workshop at the Guam Museum today, April 27.
Signatories and consulting parties will meet all day to discuss progress of the 2011 Programmatic Agreement and ways ahead for future collaboration. The Programmatic Agreement is developed under Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act and provides guidance for the mitigation of potential adverse effects to historic properties.
“This is a great opportunity for everyone to catch up on tasks and requirements that have been accomplished since the signing of the 2011 Programmatic Agreement,” said Al Borja, environmental director, Marine Corps Activity Guam. “Since last year, working together with the State Historic Preservation Office, we have appropriated funds from the 2017 National Defense Authorization Act for a Guam Cultural Repository, worked together for a robust Historic Preservation Plan, and developed and implemented a Public Access Plan for people of the island to visit important cultural and historic sites. We have also had a number of successful nominations of historic sites for the National Register of Historic Places.”
Expected attendees will include representatives from the Department of Defense, Government of Guam and Guam’s State Historic Preservation Office.
