Torres signs EMS proclamations

Gov. Ralph DLG Torres signed two proclamations last week in connection with Emergency Management Services. The proclamations declared May 21 to 27 as EMS Week and May 24 as EMS for Children Day.
The signing of both proclamations coincided with the ribbon cutting ceremony of the newly renovated Koblerville Fire Station No. 4.
EMS Week honors the value and the accomplishments made by all EMS providers—career or volunteer—for the countless hours they do in specialized training, continued education in enhancing lifesaving skills, and dedicated service to the community.
First responders, emergency medical technicians, paramedics, emergency medical dispatchers, firefighters, police officers, educators, administrators, pre-hospital nurses, emergency nurses, emergency physicians, trained members of the public, and other out of hospital medical care providers compose the EMS system.
The EMS for Children Day, meanwhile, recognizes the tireless work done by the dedicated men and women in improving the quality of pediatric medical care. EMS for Children Day aims to help communities reduce child and youth disability and death due to severe illness or injury.
The CNMI Department of Fire and EMS last year responded to 806 cases that involved children in the Commonwealth. Nationwide, over 30 million children receive emergency medical care annually either due to an illness or injury.

Lt. Gov. Victor B. Hocog, Reps. Angel Demapan (R-Saipan), Edwin Propst (Ind-Saipan), Joseph Leepan T. Guerrero (R-Saipan), Gregorio Sablan (R-Saipan), John Paul Sablan (R-Saipan), Frank Dela Cruz (R-Saipan), Edmund Villagomez (Ind-Saipan), and Alice Igitol (R-Saipan), DFEMS Commissioner Clyde Norita, Rev. Fr. James Balajadia, Pastor Frederick Fatialofa, and EMS Advisory chair Esther Milne were among the dignitaries that joined Torres on Thursday.
