EEO program responsibilities to be discussed at SHRM meeting
The Society for Human Resource Management NMI Chapter is pleased to have its former chapter president and HR consultant Frank L. Gibson speak on the topic of employers’ concerns with Equal Employment Opportunity programs.
A graduate of the United States Naval Academy with a Master’s Degree in Public Administration from the University of Oklahoma, Gibson holds Senior and Global (Professional in Human Resource certifications from the Human Resource Certification Institute and the Senior Certified Professional designation from the national Society for Human Resource Management. A 21-year resident of the CNMI, Gibson served as the special advisor to the director of Personnel, Office of Personnel Management and as the Commonwealth’s EEO coordinator. For the past 10 years he has provided, through his company HR Support, CNMI, HR management consultancy and training to both private companies and government agencies in the CNMI and Guam.
Gibson will discuss Equal Employment Opportunity from the perspective of what an employer needs to do to establish and maintain a successful EEO program so that the company can provide a work environment that is free from discrimination and harassment. The program will concentrate on employer responsibilities but will also define discrimination, explain the different types of discrimination, and briefly discuss the federal and CNMI EEO laws. It is essential for all employers, inclusive of managers, supervisors and the human resource staff, to understand their responsibilities to both the company and the employees and what they can do to ensure that their program works and provides employees with the benefits and protections the federal EEO program is intended to provide.
This lunch meeting will be held at the Pacific Islands Club Charley’s Cabaret on Friday, April 28, from 11:30am to 1:30pm.
This presentation is open to the public and will be an invaluable opportunity for employers, managers, and HR professionals and staff to better understand their EEO responsibilities. Gibson will provide an opportunity for questions.
The presentation includes the PIC lunch buffet at the cost of $20 for SHRM members and $30 for non-members. Seats are limited, so reserve your seat by contacting Penny Jones by e-mail at penelope.jones@hyatt.com or Denise Montenegro at denise.montenegro@hyatt.com or by telephone at 323-5867/68.
