MV noses out Arianne Fish Mart
Mariana Variety stole the victory from Arianne Fish Mart, 86-85, during the lone game played in the 2017 San Antonio Summer Basketball League last Saturday at the San Antonio court.
Melvin Villarin hit the dagger—a triple that was his only basket in the match. Villarin knocked in the shot of the night from the left key in front of their bench with the ball hitting nothing but the bottom of the net.
After his back-breaking trey, Arianne Fish Mart was left with two seconds to pull up for a shot and Ken Viray did manage to take the last attempt. However, his alley-oop shot rimmed out.
It was a sorry loss for Arianne Fish Mart as it led in the majority of the game with Viray taking charge and getting support from Paulo Sanguyo and Ramon Mungcal.
Viray and Muncal combined for 15 points in the first quarter to give Arianne Market a 22-16 advantage. Marianas Variety kept Arianne Fish Mart within striking distance at the end of the opening canto, thanks to Ivan Devero’s 5 straight points.
Devero was still on target in the second quarter, but failed to get help from his teammates, while Viray and company spread the wealth to retain the driver’s seat at the break, 47-39.
Arianne Fish Mart’s lead was then sliced to 3 going into the final canto, 62-65, as Devero was still unstoppable while his teammates slowly started to contribute on offense. Then in the fourth quarter, Devero found an ally in Prince Factor to keep Marianas Variety in the game, but their efforts were overshadowed by the triple of Villarin, who made the most out of his limited minutes by converting the long jumper.
Deverop top-scored for Marianas Variety with his 38 points, while Factor chipped in 17. Viray led Arianne Fish Mart with his 25 markers, while Mungcal and Sanguyo added 18 and 16, respectively.
