The Commonwealth Ports Authority will soon take over full responsibility and operation of the Outer Cove Marina following revelations yesterday that the Executive Branch is in the process of completing the transfer documents.

Seaports facility chair Benigno Sablan told the board at their regular meeting yesterday that Gov. Benigno R. Fitial had confirmed the facility’s impending transfer to CPA.

The Department of Lands and Natural Resources currently has responsibility over the marina after the approval of the submerged land lease agreement between the Marine Revitalization Corp. and the CNMI government.

Sablan said the official takeover may take less than a year.

Once the transfer is complete, he said that CPA will be responsible for entering contracts with boat owners, assessing fees, inking consignment agreements, and enforcing regulations.

The board discussion yesterday focused on the need to renovate and develop the marina in order for it to generate money for CPA.
