The Teachers topped the 2017 Micronesia and U.S.A. Rocball Championship after beating the Pound Stars in the best-of-five title series held at the Marianas High School grounds.

The Teachers sealed the title after prevailing in Game 4. They also won Games 1 and 3. The Pound Stars took Game 2 and missed the chance to grab the lead in the short series after bowing to the Teachers in Game 3 in double overtime.

The Teachers were led by Nick Gross, who was eventually named Finals MVP. Gross registered 23 points in the finals series after making three kees, three aces, one jam, and three goals. Troy “The Luther” Ngirarois was the heavy hitter for the Pound Stars with four aces, three kees, and one goal for 17 points.

Gross and company collected 85 points from the championship series off 25 aces, two xunks, five kees, four goals, and a jam. The Pound Stars were at their best in volleyball one-point court scoring and two-point backcourt scoring with 10 kees. (Saipan Tribune)
