Easter for the man’amko on the island of Saipan is anything but boring. Last Wednesday, the Office on Aging celebrated Easter with an egg hunt, dance competitions, and games such as volleyball at the Carolinian Utt from 9am to 2pm.
Linda Torres, Office on Aging community development specialist, told Saipan Tribune that one of the activities of the Man’amko Easter Celebration was an Easter egg hunt.
The Easter egg hunt consisted of almost 15 dozen cartons of eggs. The main prize for the Easter egg hunt was the golden egg, silver egg, and bronze egg. The golden egg contained $20, the silver egg contained $15, and the bronze egg contained $10.
The winner of the golden egg was Candido Augon and the winner of the silver egg was Laura Marinas. No one found the bronze egg. Christiana Michael found the most eggs with14.
Another activity that the Man’amko Easter celebration had was a dance competition. The dance competition consisted of partners and the winners were Carmelito Asuncion and Jose Rios.
Winners of the dance competition received prizes such as lunch bags, coffee mugs, and stuffed animals.
The Easter celebration even got the man’amko to play volleyball. According to Torres, the game was played differently for the senior citizens. They played it with a big beach ball while sitting on chairs in a circle.
There were many sponsors of the Man’amko Easter celebration.
Sponsors for eggs and materials were the Marianas High School class of 1987, Viola Alepuyo, Lillian Pangelinan, May and Tony Guerrero, Rep. Ed Propst (Ind-Saipan), and Robert Torres.
Some gave in-kind donations. They were Diego Pua, Jovie Raymundo, Larinay Emy, Zenaida Borja, Evelyn Quimson, Lito and Jacoba Asuncion, Maria Salinas, Tas and Luz Buccat, Floria James, and many more.
The Office of Aging president Rita Reyes also contributed to the donations. She donated all the prizes for the activities.
