US, Singapore air forces conduct joint training in Guam
WASHINGTON, D.C.—Congresswoman Madeleine Z. Bordallo yesterday issued the following statement on joint training between the Republic of Singapore Air Force (RSAF) and the United States Air Force. The training will be conducted between April 10 and May 11, 2017 out of Andersen Air Force Base.
Singapore, which only owns 1,800 miles of airspace, routinely conducts training missions in the United States, Europe, and Australia. This is the first deployment of RSAF aircraft and personnel to Guam and is the result of discussions that began last summer to increase training opportunities between the two Air Forces.
“I am encouraged that the Republic of Singapore Air Force recognizes Guam’s strategic location and availability of training ranges to conduct bilateral training exercises with the U.S. Air Force. Because of the significant logistical and financial undertaking required to coordinate joint training on the U.S. mainland, we must continue to seek opportunities to train with other nations in the Indo-Asia-Pacific region while maintaining a forward presence. This engagement further demonstrates that Guam’s strategic location allows allies and partners to interact and train with U.S. personnel and equipment on and in American soil, waters, and airspace without leaving the region. Singapore is an important ally in the Indo-Asia-Pacific region and I welcome this training opportunity. I hope to see further engagements with them, on Guam, in the future, and I encourage them to continue to be good community partners with our civilian population,” said Bordallo. (PR)
