New restaurant boasts of ‘spicy’ Sichuan cuisine

The surge of economic activity in the CNMI has piqued the interest of many businessmen and one of the many to take advantage of the rising economy is Chinese businessman Tony Wang.
Wang is the owner of Yi Pin Restaurant, a Sichuan cuisine restaurant that caters to those who are passionate for Chinese food that fall on the “hot and spicy” side of the plate.
The newly opened restaurant started operation last March 5. The initial opening was planned last July 2016, but widespread CW-1 problems at that time delayed the opening of the establishment.
The restaurant has five VIP rooms that allow seating for 12 guests. Three of the five rooms may be joined together to accommodate 36 visitors at a time, while the other two may be done the same to accommodate up to 24 guests.
Besides the impressive sliding walls that join together the VIP rooms, the main dining area boasts six round tables equipped with their own lazy Susan, a staple in authentic Chinese restaurants.
Also in the main dining area are four booths designed to seat up to six people, giving the restaurant the ability to cater for up to 144 guests.
Yi Pin is open to catering negotiations, based the number of people that will be served.
Lunch operation hours for Yi Pin is from 11am to 2pm. Their dinner service is from 5pm to 10pm. Yi Pin serves lunch buffets everyday for $9.99 for tourists while residents may avail of a 10-percent discount, for just $8.99. Lunch buffet on Sundays feature a variety of seafood, bumping up the cost to $14.99.
According to Wang, Yi Pin buys its produce from the Sabalu and Garapan Public Market to support local produce. For items not available on island, Wang said he would ship from either China or the U.S.
Yi Pin’s dinner service is no slouch. The restaurant caters to those looking for a Sichuan cuisine fix, a cuisine that revolves around the spiciness of peppers.
With numerous authentic Chinese dishes such as Angus beef flakes, orchid meringue duck, kung pao chicken, fried duck with ginger, and Sichuan style stew pork, those familiar with Chinese dishes will certainly not be disappointed.
