A suspected distributor of illegal drugs pleaded guilty on Tuesday to illegal possession of a controlled substance.

Jialiang Chen will be sentenced on Oct. 24, 2017.

The offense carries a maximum sentence of five years imprisonment and a $2,000 fine.

Chen was found in possession of 1.6 gross grams of crystal methamphetamine on Nov. 15, 2016 on Saipan. Assistant public defender Nancy Dominski served as his counsel.

Assistant attorney general Chester Hinds prosecuted the case.

Members of the CNMI Drug Enforcement Task Force and Drug Enforcement Administration arrested the 25-year-old Chen, also known as Brother, last Nov. 15.

The task force had been monitoring Chen’s drug activities on the island. A cooperating defendant managed to buy $120 worth of “ice” from Chen in a parking lot of an establishment in Chalan Laulau on Oct. 21, 2016.

The same cooperating defendant was able to buy $240 worth of “ice” from Chen at the same place on Nov. 15, 2016.
