Basa remanded to US Marshal

The U.S. District Court for the NMI has remanded to the custody of the U.S. Marshal a federal probationer who was arrested again last week for allegedly violating the conditions of his release.

At a hearing on Thursday, Magistrate Judge Heather L. Kennedy stated that there’s no evidence as to why Francisco N. Basa should not be detained.

Kennedy set the revocation hearing for April 11 at 9am.

Assistant U.S. attorney Garth Backe, counsel for the U.S. government, moved for Basa’s continued detention pending further hearings due to his arrest for serious violations. inues to miss drug testing and counseling.

Basa, through counsel Bruce Berline, had no position on the matter of detention.

U.S. Probation Officer Gregory Arriola disclosed that Basa failed to appear for counseling sessions and drug testing once last February and four times last March.

Arriola said Basa also failed to follow his instructions last March 5.

The court had revoked Basa’s supervised release several times in the past for violating the conditions of the terms of his probation.
