NMI’s junior thespians invited to Int’l Festival

Having just returned from a successful trip, the CNMI’s junior thespians may soon leave the islands again after being invited to perform at the International Thespian Festival 2017 in Lincoln, Nebraska.
The Feb. 10-12 debut of the Junior Thespian Festival featured the participation of 35 groups, for a total of 1,429 students.
Northern Marianas International School’s Amy Solomon, Hopwood Middle School’s Bonnie Gio Sagana, and Dandan Middle School’s Juliet Inocencio and Jonathan Wolf all received a superior rating, the highest recognition in the Junior Thespian Festival.
Students who received a superior rating are eligible to perform at the International Thespian Festival in Nebraska.
Solomon, who represented the CNMI for monologue, said, “It has really been an honor to be a part of this group [and to be able to represent the CNMI].” She enjoyed participating in workshops and watching all of the shows.
Sagana, a Thespian veteran, represented the CNMI in solo musical. He felt more confident this year in his performance and learned from the previous year. He received a superior rating and was invited to perform on a main stage performance for the closing of the festival. He also received an All-Star award.
Inocencio represented the CNMI in duet acting. “My favorite part about the festival was getting to watch all these amazing people perform for us. I also loved going to the workshops, it was awesome learning techniques on acting, singing, and dancing,” Inocencio said. She also received a superior rating and was invited to perform her duet acting piece on the main stage.
The team was invited to perform a 15-minute main stage performance of Into the Woods. In addition, the troupe got into the top six outstanding performances.
The Junior Thespian Festival and Junior Theater Festival West will be holding the same festival next year in February. The International Thespian Festival will be held this June.
