Flame Tree arts fest to move to Fishing Base
This year’s Flame Tree Arts Festival will be moved to Garapan Fishing Base.
This is intended to bring indigenous artists, entertainers and vendors closer to a major tourism site and to share with visitors the island’s brand of art, entertainment and food offering, according to the Department of Community and Cultural Affairs’ Commonwealth Council for Arts and Culture, in conjunction with KKMP Radio and the KKMP Foundation.
“Tourism is everyone’s business and our participants agree that we should share this longest running festival with our vacationers,” organizers said.
The Flame Tree Arts Festival, usually held at the Civic Center in Susupe, celebrates the rich art and cultural heritage of the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands and will take place on April 20-23, 2017.
The flame tree is the CNMI’s official tree and the festival will be held during the typical blossoming season of the flame tree flowers.
“Many flame trees were damaged by Typhoon Soudeler and did not make an appearance last year but we are hopeful this year will bring an abundance of flowers” organizers added.
Confirmed for this year’s festival will be three groups from Guam, one from the Republic of Palau and three groups from Rota.
The vendor and artists stalls are selling out fast. There are eight food stalls, two indigenous food stands, 22 artists’ kiosks, and three school booths left Registration will end on March 31, 2017. Space will be on a first come first served basis.
Only art pieces and goods created in the CNMI and Micronesia will be allowed on the festival grounds. There will be no exemptions
This year’s platinum sponsors are Bridge Capital LLC and IT&E. Gold sponsors are DCCA-Youth Services, Bank of Guam, and the bronze sponsors are Fiesta Resort & Spa Saipan, Hyatt Regency Saipan, and Pacifica Insurance.
