Palacios signs appropriation bill for Rota
Acting governor Arnold I. Palacios signed last week an appropriation bill for Rota; House Local Bill 20-7, D1 is now Rota Local Law 20-1, allocating a total of $50,000 for various projects at the municipality.
The money came from local license fees collected from poker and pachinko slot machines and $30,000 left over from a previous appropriation measure.
RLL 20-1 allocates almost $45,000 to Rota patients after the Rota Legislative Delegation saw the need to provide an allowance to its residents who are undergoing dialysis and other treatment for their terminal illnesses. RLL 20-1 also authorizes the use of $5,000 for non-profit group ROMARCA’s administrative operations.
A total of $44,700 would be given to 65 Rota residents as monthly subsistence allowances when they undergo dialysis or other treatment for their respective terminal illnesses.
The allowances vary from $300 to $350 for each month and are payments for the months of November and December 2016. The remaining $300 from the $45,000 is for the shipping cost of library resource materials from Saipan to Rota.
Fifty-one would receive $700 for two months, where it would also help four patients who are minors. Their locations are either in the CNMI (Saipan or Rota, Guam, Hawaii, Idaho, Oregon, and Washington.
