A total of 540 people availed of consular services here through the four-day outreach conducted by the Philippine Consulate General in Agana, Guam.
The outreach took place at the Pedro P. Tenorio Multi-Purpose Hall in Susupe. It began on March 19 and lasted until March 22.
Philippine Consulate General Marciano de Borja told Saipan Tribune they were able to assist Filipinos apply for new passports, renew their expiring passport, obtain a report of marriage, apply for dual citizenships, and get their biometrics for their passports done.
The only Philippine Consulate General left in the Pacific is the one based in Agana, Guam. The one on Saipan and Palau closed down in 2012.
“…Because of this, we need to have consular outreach every other month because there are still many Filipino citizens who need to avail of consular services,” said de Borja.
For this month’s outreach, they reached out to 540 people, said Philippine consul Mark Hamoy. “There was actually 640 slots, but many did not show up for their schedules,” said Hamoy.
The volunteer work of the United Filipino Organization and the assistance of Philippine honorary consul Glicero Arago helped make the outreach program possible, according to de Borja
Consular outreach programs are held on Saipan every other month. The next one is scheduled for May 2017.
