Brandon Tenorio completed a hat trick to lift Shirley’s Football Club to a 3-2 upset over Kanoa FC in the boys U14 division of the 2017 NMIFA Youth Spring League last Saturday at the Koblerville Elementary School Field.
The victory put Shirley’s on the win column after it dropped its first two games of the season and also gave the team its first triumph dating back to the fall tournament last year. Kanoa, which finished second to TanHoldings in the 2016 fall competition, fell to a 1-1-1 win-draw-loss record.
Tenorio scored his first two goals in a span of five minutes to give Shirley’s a 2-1 halftime edge. He got his first goal in the 20th minute and the second in the 25th, while Merrick Toves put Kanoa on the board in the 10th.
Kanoa then equalized in the 50th minute, thanks to Jaydee Jose’s conversion. However, Shirley’s quickly got the lead back when Tenorio completed his string of three goals in the 53rd minute and his squad hung on tight on defense in the remainder of the match to take the win.
