Your Balls stuns Man Amigos

  Your Balls forced a face-off against Gagu Eyez in the men’s upper bracket double-elimination semifinals of the Chamolinian Softball Association’s 2nd Budweiser Softball after pulling off an 18-16 upset over defending champion Man Amigos last Friday night League at the Capital Hill Ballfield.

Your Balls, which meets Gagu Eyes tonight at 8:30pm, eked out the close win after recovering from a 0-5 deficit and winning the battle of home runs against Man Amigos.

Man Amigos held an early 5-0 lead after the first inning after a two-run homer from Joey Dela Cruz and an RBI from Jeff Cabrera. The two other runs were scored off errors.

Your Balls got four runs back in the bottom side in the form of a three-run blast by Byron Kaipat and a solo shot by his brother, Kyle. However, Man Amigos countered with a pair two-run bomb from Jerry Ayuyu and Roy Celis for their 9-4 advantage.

An eight-run bottom of the third quickly moved Your Balls in front, 12-9. It had nine hits in the third, including a two-run homer from Byron Kaipat, an RBI double from Giovanni Ayuyu, an RBI base smash from Shane Igisiar, and a three-run homer from Jun Kaipat.

Your Balls stretched the lead to five, 15-10, after the fourth inning, as it added three runs off a two-run shot by Kyle Kaipat and an error.

Your Balls remained in control, 18-12, after five frames thanks to another three-run homer by Byron Kaipat. Your Balls then held its rivals to four runs in the final stand. Ayuyu was credited for the three runs in Man Amigos’ final push with his long ball before Your Balls secured the victory.

Meanwhile, the third-seeded Gagu Eyez routed the No. 1 Warriors in six innings of last Friday’s playoffs, 13-3, to advance to the next round. Also last Friday, No. 3 Elias slipped past No. 5 Familia, 16-14, in the single-elimination playoffs of the men’s bottom six.

The Warriors will face Saipal (8) tonight at 6:30pm, while reigning women’s champ Sakudi (1) collides with the Rookies (5) at 7:30pm. Bottom six’s Talu Fahn (3) faces the G-Ballers (1) at 9:30pm.

Elias 16, Familia 14

Elias put up six quick runs in the opening frame off as many hits, including a three-run homer from Gary Cruz and a two-run shot from JP Sablan. Glen Camacho broke the ice with an RBI single.

Elias remained in front, 8-2, after the second inning off an error and a sacrifice fly by BJ Nicolas. Familia’s Kolin Reyes and JD Dikito bashed solo homers in the bottom portion.

Familia rallied in the third with seven hits to pull within two, 7-9. Lawrence Dikito led off with a solo blast, which was followed by an RBI single by Reyes, a sacrifice fly by Preston Basa, and another RBI smash from Nick Guerrro.

Familia then added a couple runs in the fourth inning off an error and a sacricie fly by Joe Guerrero and then seized control, 12-10, in the fifth after another early error, an RBI double by Nick Guerrero, and an RBI base knock by Lawrence Dikito

Elias’ Mel Manahane busted an RBI double in the top of the third and teammate Glen Camacho bagged an RBI single in the top side of the fourth. Elias came up cold in the fifth, but surged in front, 14-12, in the sixth, thanks to a sacrifice fly by Mike Cruz and a clutch three-run blast by Nicolas. Elias managed a pair of insurance runs in the seventh inning off an error and a base poke by Delvin Manahane, and contained Familia to just two runs in the final stand.

Gagu Eyez 13, Warriors 3

After two scoreless innings, Gagu Eyez made it to the board first with three runs off three hits and two errors. Tyrone Omar bagged an RBI single and Nokki Saralu hit a two-RBI base rip.

The Warriors immediately tied it back up in the bottom frame of three hits and two errors, but were held to just two hits for the remainder of the contest.

Gagu Eyez trotted ahead, 9-3, in the top of the fourth with the help of some defensive fumbles. Juan Tenorio bashed an RBI double and Jesus Iguel lifted a sacrifice fly, while the four other runs came off errors.

Gagu Eyez’s Jack Sablan crushed a three-run homer in the fifth inning to put his team on top, 12-3, and Derek Sablan scored off a fielder’s choice in the top of the sixth for the mercy rule. The Warriors were hemmed up in a double play in the final stand to end their comeback attempt.
