Man gets 45-day jail term for kicking cop
A man who pleaded guilty to kicking a police officer in the leg was slapped with a 45-day prison term.
Superior Court Associate Judge Joseph N. Camacho on Thursday sentenced Alexander James to a year in prison, all suspended except for 45 days, for assault and battery, with credit for time served.
After completing his sentence, James will be placed on probation for one year.
He was also ordered to pay a $50 fine, $100 probation fee plus court costs and was required to perform 50 hours of community service.
Camacho also ordered James to pay $928.52 in restitution to Kenneth Leon Guerrero for damaging his car.
Camacho barred the defendant during his probation from possessing or consuming alcoholic beverages as well as entering into any establishment whose primary purpose is the sale or consumption of alcoholic beverages.
As part of the plea deal, the government dismissed the remaining charge of criminal mischief.
According to the plea agreement, on Nov. 16, 2011 on Saipan, James kicked police officer Abraham Villagomez in the leg.
The government also charged James with jumping up and down on top of Leon Guerrero’s car, causing a dent.
Camacho accepted the plea agreement as James’ employer had stated that he is still willing to accept James after serving the jail term and that the defendant has no criminal history.
