High surf seen until this Friday
Based on information received from the National Weather Service in Tiyan, Guam, and compiled at the CNMI Emergency Operations Center State Warning Point, gentle to moderate winds will gradually become fresh to strong. first in Saipan waters then filtering southward. Combined seas will range between 10 and 12 feet through at least Friday as a shear line.
A high surf advisory remains in effect until 6pm Friday.
Surf will be hazardous 9 to 11 feet, then gradually diminish to 7 to 9 feet today. Surf could fall below hazardous levels by Tuesday night as swell turns toward the northeast. Surf will likely remain hazardous most of the week.
A small craft advisory remains in effect until 6pm Friday.
Combined seas of 9 to 12 feet will produce hazardous conditions for operators of small craft. Conditions will not improve through the week as winds will become fresh to strong from north to south across the region the next couple of days. Hazardous conditions will persist through Friday.
Inexperienced mariners, especially those operating smaller vessels, should avoid sailing in these conditions. Avoid venturing out to exposed reef lines and beaches, especially along north and west facing shores, as rip currents will be life threatening. (EOC)
