Oldest school in NMI invites public to ‘fun night’
William S. Reyes Elementary School, considered the oldest school in the Commonwealth, will be celebrating its 70th anniversary this coming Feb. 17 and is inviting the public to attend.
Founded in 1947, the William S. Reyes Elementary School would host an event that will commemorate its standing as the first school in the CNMI.
The event would also be done alongside the Family Fun Night of the Parent Teacher Student Association that same day.
“The Family Fun Night [is] an annual carnival-type fundraiser event on Feb. 17, 2017,” said WSRES public relations coordinator Winnifred Cabrera.
It will feature free admission, entertainment, and a raffle with cash prizes and consolation prizes. Raffle tickets sell for $1 apiece.
“This year, our PTSA is focusing its fundraising efforts to build waiting areas for parents as well as create another drop-off zone on the north wing of the school,” said Cabrera.
Another new feature for the year is the coronation of the WSRES KINGfisher and QUEENfisher Royal Court.
“Students run as candidates by selling the most raffle tickets,” said Cabrera.
According to Cabrera, WSRES is accepting donations of all kinds, even taking up offers for individual performers or group performers.
