11 students head to Japan for exchange program
Eleven students will be participating in the 34th Sanpo-En Winter Cultural Students Exchange Program. They will be leaving for Japan on Feb. 8 and will be back on Feb. 14.
“The purpose of the trip is to provide a teaching and learning experience for our students to learn the Japanese culture. They are also our young ambassadors to represent and promote the island of Saipan and to strengthen the sister-city relation with Japan. They also have a chance to experience the cold weather and take part in winter activities such as playing in the snow, skiing, etc.,” said student cultural exchange program coordinator Yuki Kishimoto,
The students will be able to speak with the mayor of Nantan, the governor and mayor of Kyoto, the mayor of Nagano, and other officials.
“We hope that the students will bring home what they learned and experienced in Japan to encourage their peers to participate in the program to share the cultures,” said Kishimoto. “We also hope that the students can return the island-style hospitality to our guests when they visit Saipan.”
