Japan school seeks student exchange program
Three officials of Sendai Ikuei Gakuen High School met with Saipan Mayor David M. Apatang yesterday to discuss the possibility of a student exchange program.
“It would be nice to have another high school from Japan be part of the annual program that we have already established with other high schools,” said Apatang. “It is always good for people to experience other cultures and I encourage all schools to look into doing a program like this.”
Pacific Eagle Enterprises Inc. president Willie Matsumoto is assisting in bringing the officials to different high schools on island. Since arriving, they have already met with Kagman High School and Marianas High School, and will be going to Grace Christian Academy High School and Mount Carmel High School.
Sendai Ikuei Gakuen director Jun Ogata said their exchange programs have been very successful and they are excited to work with Saipan. They have exchange programs with China as well, and are teaching the Chinese language and culture on campus.
Haruo Mayama, the school’s vice principal, said, “Saipan has very friendly people.”
Apatang said: “We would love to see the Japanese market come back here and this is a great way to get word into Japan about the beauty of Saipan.”
Sendai Ikuei Gakuen High School was founded in 1905 and has about 3,000 students.
