Igitol: Take advantage of NMTI programs

Rep. Alice Igitol (R-Saipan) attended the Historic Preservation’s sponsored community meeting held at the Tanapag Youth Center. The focus of the meeting was the ancestral bones that were dug up at the casino site in Garapan and the site for its proper burial ceremony. The Historic Preservation Office is seeking public comments and ideas on the site to rebury the remains. Igitol is encouraging the public to attend HPO public meetings to share recommendations and other concerns.
Other information that was presented at the meeting is the Northern Marianas Trade Institute. According to Russ Manglona, NMTI is ready to empower residents with the necessary work skills for job placement. NMTI provides training in the culinary arts, construction trades and automotive tech.
Igitol is informing residents that the culinary arts program of NMTI has a loan program that will help students cover the cost of tuition, books, and other material that will be used throughout the training period. NMTI also offers incentives to students who complete the culinary arts program—a set of knives worth $400 for use at work. Additionally, NMTI has a job referral and placement program for students who complete the program.
NMTI also has a loan payment plan. For every year that an NMTI graduate works in the private sector, $1,000 will be written-off from their student loan.
Igitol wishes to inform all residents in Precinct 4 who are interested to enroll in the program to contact 664-8806 for assistance. To date, 99 percent of NMTI graduates are currently employed.
