Jung Eun Teack was named 2016 Saipan Golf Association Ace of Aces after ruling the club championship held last Jan. 14 and 15 at the Kingfisher Golf Links.

Teack had a net score of 142 after the two-day tournament, just one stroke ahead of Attorney General Edward Manibusan’s 143. The 2016 February Ace built enough cushion in the opening round to keep the lead and prevent Manibusan from stealing SGA Ace of Aces title.

A net 68 in the first round put Teack on top of the leaderboard. He was up by one stroke against Juan Lizama and Juan Pan Guerrero and had a four-shot advantage against Manibusan and Alex Tudela.

In the second round, Manibusan had the best net score with 71, but it was not enough to overtake Teack, who was saved by his net 74 in the final day of the competition. Juan Lizama and Guerrero also faltered after struggling in the final round with their net 80 and 81, respectively.

Lizama settled for fourth place after combining for a net 149 and beating Alex Tudela (72 and 77) in the scorecard tiebreak, while Guerrero dropped to fifth place with his two-day net of 150. Guerrero also won a deadlock against Das Krishnan, who fired a 73 and 77 in the first and second round.

Meanwhile, Manibusan won the closest to the pin contest in hole No. 15 on both days. Joe Demapan, James Nelson, and Jess Castro had the same feats in No. 6, No. 8, and No. 12 in the first round, while Kautz and Nick Sablan were the closest to the pin winners in No. 6 and 8, respectively, in the last day of the tournament.

Kautz also had the longest drive on No. 11 on Day 1, while John Cruz was the winner in No. 7. On Day 2, Greg Sablan Jr. made the longest drive in No. 1, while Larry Deleon Guerrero did the same in No. 14.

The second and final day of the club championship served as the January Ace tournament, too, with Frances Sablan getting the first monthly crown after posting a net score of 70. The 28-handicapper shot a 51 and 47 on the front and back nines for a gross 98. Manibusan was again the runner-up with his net 71 (76 gross and 5 handicap), beating Juan L. Babauta in the tiebreak.
