As part of its continued marketing in Japan, the Marianas Visitors Authority hosted eight travel agents from Osaka and Nagoya and a representative of United Airlines on a familiarization tour io Saipan on Jan. 11-14, 2017.

The group commenced their tour of Saipan with dinner at Casa Urashima. Early the next morning, the group caught the sunrise at Bird Island Lookout, followed by a tour of Grotto, Suicide Cliff, Last Command Post, and Banzai Cliff. Hotel site inspections were made at Mariana Resort & Spa, Kensington Hotel, Aqua Resort Club Saipan, Hyatt Regency Saipan, Fiesta Resort & Spa, Saipan World Resort, and Pacific Islands Club Saipan.

Dining was featured at Mariana Resort & Spa, Kili Café & Terrace at Hyatt Regency Saipan, barbecue lunch at Managaha, the Joyful dinner show at Fiesta Resort & Spa, and dinner at PIC. Other activities included shopping at T Galleria and I Love Saipan, a cocktail show at SandCastle Saipan, and a Polaris Razor trail tour with Let’s Go Tour to Mt. Tapochao.

“This week’s fam[iliari-zation] tour was significant in that it indicates strong interest in Osaka and Nagoya for the Northern Marianas,” said MVA managing director Christopher A. Concepcion.

“The MVA continues to negotiate with existing and new potential airlines—including low-cost carriers—about establishing new flights from Japan. There is some interest, and we must continue to promote and market diligently in Japan to build sufficient demand, including bringing travel agents who sell the destination to the islands to experience the destination first-hand so they can better sell it.”

Participating travel agencies were: Hankyu Travel, Kinki Nippon Tourist, Ryobi Tour, Travel Plaza Int’l Western Japan, JTB World Vacations Osaka, JTB World Vacations Nagoya, United Tours, and IACE Travel.

Accommodations were provided by Hyatt Regency Saipan. (MVA)
