Commonwealth Healthcare Corp. CEO Juan N. Babauta led officials and key officers of the organization in signing a statement of support for the Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve during a ceremony at the hospital yesterday.

David J. Sablan, ESGR state chair for the Guam-CNMI Committee, briefed hospital leaders the important role played by the group in ensuring that employers and Guards and reservists truly understand their roles.

ESGR is a U.S. Department of Defense agency that promotes public and private understanding of the National Guard and Reserve in order to gain employer and community support.

Babauta said he has always been a supporter of the organization and praised the volunteer work it has done throughout the years.

Babauta was joined by director for Medical Affairs Dr. Jeremy Richards, Emergency Preparedness director Warren Villagomez, Bureau of Environmental Health director John Tagabuel, nursing director Leticia Reyes, and other key staff in signing the statement of support for ESGR.

According to Sablan, there are two components in the military: those in active duty and those on reserve. He said about 48 percent of the entire military force in the nation is on reserve.

Sablan was also joined by Maj. Josephine M.P. Blas, program administrator for ESGR Guam-CNMI Committee, and volunteers on Saipan during the signing ceremony yesterday.

ESGR also hosted yesterday a job fair for service members at the Saipan World Resort. Sablan disclosed that more than 30 organizations participated.

It was earlier disclosed that the CNMI has 130 Guards and reservists, of which 25 to 30 are unemployed. These unemployed service members are mostly young soldiers who joined the military for two years immediately after high school. The job fair was intended to give these service members meaningful employment.
