Man allegedly beats up wife at her workplace
Police arrested in Kagman 3 on Wednesday afternoon a man who allegedly beat up his wife at her workplace when she told him she had no milk for their baby.
Benjamin R. Rios Jr., 28, also allegedly called his wife on the phone and threatened to kill her and their 11-month old son.
A witness warned police that Rios owns a .223 Magnum and several weapons that he brings with him in his blue truck.
Police served an arrest warrant on Rios for assault, assault and battery, and disturbing the peace (domestic violence). The report did not mention if any gun was seized from him. His bail was set yesterday at $15,000 cash; preliminary hearing is on Jan. 11 at 9am.
Superior Court Associate Judge Kenneth L. Govendo ordered Rios to surrender all his weapons.
Assistant public defender Michael Sato was appointed as counsel for Rios. Assistant attorney general Matthew Baisley appeared for the government.
Police said the victim called the Department of Public Safety on Monday at 11:33am to complain that her husband, Rios, beat her up at a store in western Garapan where she works.
A police officer located Rios in Kagman that noon and arrested him. Rios was then released as police did further investigation. On Wednesday, police re-arrested him on the strength of an arrest warrant.
The victim told police that she was at work when Rios came and asked her for milk for their baby. As she had none, she told him she would go and buy some. Rios allegedly got mad, punched her twice in the face, pulled her hair, then left and drove away. She called the police.
On Tuesday afternoon, the wife called DPS Central again after Rios contacted her on the phone and threatened to kill her and their baby.
The wife alleged that Rios has been beating her up for quite some time now and that he would get mad for no reason.
Police said a witness confirmed that Rios called the store on Tuesday and when told that his wife was not there, he shouted on the phone and threatened to kill the person who answered the phone, his wife, and their child.
