MVA’s Marianas Sunset Fun Run on Jan. 20
To mark the end of the yearlong celebration of its 40th anniversary, the Marianas Visitors Authority is inviting tourism partners of all sectors and ages—including the general public—to join its Marianas Sunset Fun Run on Jan. 20 along the Saipan Beach Pathway.
“Beginning with the MVA’s anniversary proclamation signing by Gov. Ralph DLG Torres in February 2016, we’ve had a number of events throughout the year, highlighted by having the winning float in this year’s Liberation Day parade,” said MVA managing director Christopher A. Concepcion. “What better way to end the anniversary than by coming together for a friendly run on the Saipan Beach Pathway that we helped relight this year and by giving back to the community at the same time.”
Proceeds of the event will benefit the Dog Control Program of the Saipan Mayor’s Office, which helps control the stray dog population. The run will begin at 6pm at Garapan Fishing Base, with the turnaround point at the Japanese tank at Quartermaster Road. Registration for the Marianas Sunset Run is $5 and will begin at 5pm. Cash and company checks are welcomed, and checks should be made payable to the Marianas Visitors Authority. Early registration at the Marianas Visitors Authority before event day will also be opened and announced shortly.
“Tourism is everybody’s business, and we’re pleased to be donating our proceeds to the Office of the Mayor, which is working to make our islands a better place for residents, visitors, and animals. In the past, tourists have registered concerns about their safety around dangerous, unleashed dogs, so the work done by the Dog Control Program and other similar organizations is important for tourism,” said Concepcion. “Four-legged friends on leashes are also welcomed at the run.”
T-shirts provided by the MVA and TanHoldings Corp. will be distributed to registrants while supplies last. Taste of the Marianas tokens will be given to the first five male and first five female finishers. The first 40 registrants under 18 will receive a Saipan-da backpack.
