Saipan, Tinian sobriety checkpoints
The Department of Public Safety’s Traffic Section will be conducting sobriety checkpoints on Saipan on Dec. 24.
The first checkpoint is from 8pm to 10pm, along Beach Road Chalan Lau Lau to Beach Road Chalan Piao. The second checkpoint is from 11pm to 1am along Chalan Pale Arnold, Puerto Rico to Chalan Pale Arnold, Chalan Lau Lau;
Each checkpoint will last 75 minutes or 1 hour and 15 minutes. Checkpoints will be terminated when it rains.
Tinian sobriety checkpoints
Tinian’s Traffic Section will be conducting DUI/sobriety checkpoints on the dates and time listed below:
Thursday, Dec. 22, 2016, 8pm to 9:15pm: North and southbound lane on Broadway Road between Tinian Hardware and Natibu Park.
Thursday, Dec. 22, 2016, 6pm to 7:15pm: West and eastbound lane on Suzuran Street between Natibu Park and Senior Citizen Center in San Jose Village.
Friday, Dec. 23, 2016, 6:30pm to 7:45pm: West and eastbound lane on Grand Street between JJ Mart and Department of Commerce.
Friday, Dec. 23, 2016, 8pm to 9:15pm: West and eastbound lane on Canal Street between Queen’s and Tinian Hardware.
Each checkpoint will last at least 75 minutes (1 hour and 15 minutes). Checkpoints are subject to be terminated if it begins to rain. This activity is part of the department’s effort to deter, detect and apprehend impaired drivers and to ensure that all vehicle occupants are protected.
In addition, traffic officers will be conducting highway criminal interdictions and laser (speed detection) enforcement. (DPS)
