The Northern Mariana Islands received the Most Potential Destination Award at China’s 12th National Tourism Awards event held on Dec. 12 in Beijing.
The National Tourism Awards is organized by Tourism Media and Best Travel Media and was held this year at CHAO Hotel.
“We’re ecstatic to have Saipan, Tinian, and Rota recognized with another national award in China,” said Marianas Visitors Authority managing director Christopher A. Concepcion. “The National Tourism Awards is an authoritative award event in the Chinese tourism industry. Every year, they identify enterprises and groups, including official tourism authorities, travel agencies and airlines with outstanding performances. This academic award reflects a powerful endorsement by the Chinese public and will increase confidence among our partners in continuing to promote the Northern Marianas.”
The award was accepted by project manager Florence Shi of MVA’s China office. Also named for this year were Colorado, Minnesota, Poland, and Monterey City, CA.
The MVA operates marketing offices in Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, and Hong Kong. Last fiscal year, over 200,000 visitors traveled from China to the Northern Marianas, representing 41 percent of total visitor arrivals and making China the largest source market for the destination. (MVA)
