Among several international media welcomed, the Marianas Visitors Authority organized a Taiwan media familiarization tour of Saipan on Dec. 1-5, 2016, to promote the 10th Annual Hell of the Marianas cycling race and interview with MVA managing director Christopher A. Concepcion.

The group was escorted by MVA’s Taiwan PR executive Lisa Wang and MVA marketing specialist Laura Hsiao, who arranged the itinerary and sponsorship of the familiarization tour. The group stayed at Grandvrio Resort.

Two Taiwanese female bikers, Yin-Han “Summer” Su and Wen-Chun “Celine” Hsu, joined the individual 100-kilometer course, completing the race at 6:16:52 and 6:17:01, respectively. The two bikers are also among popular sports tourism bloggers in Taiwan, with over 30,000 fans on Facebook.

“I am so happy to finish, and I pushed myself hard to accomplish the toughest race in Micronesia,” said Su after crossing the finish line.

“Although it was the toughest route, the scenery along the race route was very enjoyable,” added Hsu.

Taiwan’s EBC TV News featured the two popular Taiwanese bikers participating in Hell of the Marianas and interviewed Concepcion about the facts and distinguishing features of the race on Dec 3, 2016. The show will be aired to an estimated 230,000 viewers in Taiwan.

“We welcome more Taiwanese to join the race that can be enjoyed by pro bikers and sports lovers, in general,” said Concepcion. “The fresh air and beautiful scenery along Beach Road, as well as year-round mild weather, make the Northern Marianas a wonderful place to visit at any time. During sports events the MVA organizes like the Hell of the Marianas, participants have the added benefit of exercising together and meeting locals and other international participants as they experience an unforgettable vacation.”

The program will also feature an introduction of the cycling route, a tour of scenic and historic sites in Marpi such as Banzai Cliff, Bird Island, Last Command Post, and Grotto; Managaha Island; Christmas in the Marianas; Garapan Street Market; and indigenous craftsmanship. The familiarization tour was also supported by Revolving Restaurant 360, Salty’s Grill & Cafe, Tony Roma’s, Bubba Gump, and Fiesta Resort & Spa Dinner Show. (MVA)
