SRO crowd at MHS concert

Encores were aplenty during Marianas High School’s standing-room-only Winter Concert held Tuesday at the Pedro P. Tenorio Multi-Purpose Center in Susupe.
Gina Aguilar, general music teacher of MHS, said, “It’s magnificent! My students are all amazing and talented. This show is for the parents. I’m overwhelmed right now.”
With Carlo Prado and Jimmy Blancia serving as masters of ceremony, the concert showcased a large number of solos and duets.
Aguilar said, “This is an experience the students probably will remember for a long time. Whatever simple thing they’re doing in this performance, is actually big for them. I wanted all my students to have some form of experience of performing in front of a crowd and most of these solo acts are from people who did it for the first time in their lives.”
Proceeds of the event will be donated to Karidat Social Services, a domestic relief shelter on island.
“My students and I have agreed to give all proceeds to Karidat. We want to give the cash to them and they should do with it however they see fit. It’s for people who are less fortunate than us, so why not share some of our blessings?” Aguilar said.
The audience was treated to performances by groups such as the MHS Symphonic Winds, Out and About Mime Group, and MHS Glee Club.
A senior of MHS, Stacy Nicole Palacios, said, “We’re here to fundraise for Karidat and it’s a really good thing to help those in need. Last year, we raised money to buy more instruments and fix some stuff in the music department at our school.”
A band teacher for MHS, David Frahm, said, “This is a good chance to get all the talent groups of MHS together and showcase their talents. …I think it really shows a wide variety of talents we have over at MHS.”
