Hocog offers assistance to families on Tinian

Acting governor Victor B. Hocog donated canned goods early this month to Junior Reserve Officers Training Corps cadets on Tinian to assist former contract workers of the Tinian Dynasty Hotel & Casino and over 140 families in need.

In July of this year, dozens of Tinian Dynasty Hotel & Casino employees were without power and on rationed food after months of non-payment and austerity measures.

According to 1SG Jose King, the cadets wanted to help brighten up these ex-employees’ Christmas this year through part of their Service Learning Project to make a difference in the community.

“ Our JROTC cadets were collecting canned goods donations to help the contract workers…who are currently having trouble gathering resources and also to help brighten up their Christmas this year…they post themselves at three different locations for a couple of hours after school on Wednesdays and Fridays as well as Saturdays. They’ve also sought assistance from the delegations, Mayor’s Office, Bridge Investment Group, and Alter City and are looking at helping approximately 140 families,” King said.

“Extending assistance to the families in need, especially during the holiday season, is important. This is a very serious and unfortunate situation and we are working with our federal partners so that we can ensure that a permanent resolution is found so that we can move forward and improve developments throughout the Commonwealth,” Hocog said.

All canned goods donations will be consolidated and sorted on Dec. 19 and will be distributed on Dec 21 at Kammer Beach.
