Ikuei Nishi students visit MCS for 2nd year in a row

For the second year in a row, students from the all-girls school Ikuei Nishi Junior and Senior High School in Nara, Japan, visited Mount Carmel School.
Building on the successful visit last year in October, the number of students jumped from 100 to over 150 this year.
The day kicked off with a welcoming ceremony, in which representatives from each school gave opening remarks and students from each respective school performed for each other. After the ceremony, Ikuei Nishi students spent the day conducting mini-cultural presentations for all grade levels, as well as interacting with MCS students in games and activities.
According to Ikuei Nishi vice principal Akiko Yukawa, they decided to come back to Mount Carmel based on a very successful visit last year. A
“We remembered your warm hospitality, and we wanted to come back to continue our wonderful relationship,” Yukawa said.
Ikuei Nishi teacher Rika Shimodama echoed Yukawa. “We really appreciate the hospitality of Mount Carmel School.”
The visit proved to be another success, according to MCS student leaders. MCS Student Council president Zeno Deleon Guerrero said, “This year’s visit was awesome, especially since they took the time to include and present to our elementary students. …This also honored one of our school’s Expected School-wide Learning Results, to cultivate respect and appreciation for cultural diversity.”
For MCS Student Council vice president Jacqueline Doctor, she appreciated the improvements in this year’s visit. “There were more activities this year, helping us interact more.” (MCS)
