Diyco, Dizon pace Saipan finishers in ‘Hell’

Jerome Diyco and Nap Dizon were ranked first among the Saipan finishers in the road and mountain bike divisions of last Saturday’s 10th Hell of Marianas Century Cycle Race.

Diyco completed the 100-kilometer course in 3:53:48 to rule the men’s U19 age group in the road bike category. He was the lone Saipan entry in the road bike division to break the four-hour barrier, defeating fellow youth biker Wynn Brillo (4:05:00) and Taiga Sato (4:18:50).

Other age group top finishers in the road bike races were 20 to 29’s Josh Martin (5:24:44), 30 to 39’s Jonathan Martin (3:29:53), 40 to 49’s Ritchie Ian Solana (3:48:02), Nestor Glenn Gonzales (3:31:20), 50 to 54’s Rick Leone (3:58:43), 55 to 59’s Willy Barbo (4:13:29), and over 60’s Manny Sitchon (4:56:42).

Sitchon won over Steve Nutting (5:17:20), while Barbo prevailed against Florence Antonio (4:47:19). Leone made it to the podium along with Robert Tamondon (4:06:01) and Cesar Fortaleza (4:19:13), while Gonzales was joined in the Top 3 by Katsuki Ishimatu (3:52:08) and Bon Ferrer (3:54:03). Jake Gimoto (3:48:03) and Manny Masculino (4:05:00) finished third and second behind Solana, while J.C. Libut (4:08:35) and Paul Cuaresma (4:30:08) completed the Top 3 finish in the 30 to 39 age group of the road bike category.

In the MTB division, Dizon’s 3:53:51 bested the times of 18 other finishers in his category. He was the second overall Saipan finisher (road and MTB combined) and first in the 40 to 44 age group, beating Ferdinand Ramos (4:26:24), and Harold Balana (4:39:16).

Rounding out the age group champions list in the MTB category were U19’s Von Adrina Libayan (4:06:19), 30 to 39’s Charlie Sendin (4:02:29), 45 to 49’s Mark Isip (4:06:01), 50 to 54’s Noel Altamirano (4:16:56), 55 to 59’s Boby Aguilar (4:53:37), and manatee’s Floro Derexes (4:56:42). In the women’s division, the top winners were 20 to 29’s Kristina Mafnas (6:37:39), 30 to 39’s Felicia Reynolds (5:34:38), and 40 to 44’s Kimberly King-Hinds (5:02:44).
