Woman allegedly sold ‘ice’
CNMI Drug Enforcement Task Force officers arrested again on Tuesday a woman who allegedly sells methamphetamine or “ice” on Saipan.
Julie Duenas Camacho, 50, was charged with trafficking of a controlled substance and possession of a controlled substance. Her bail was set Tuesday at $100,000 cash; preliminary hearing will be on Dec. 12 at 9am.
Assistant public defender Cindy Nesbit was appointed as counsel for Camacho. Assistant attorney general Matthew Baisley appeared for the government.
According to Baisley, task force officers arrested Camacho last Sept. 27 for allegedly selling “ice” to a cooperating source during a controlled “buy-walk” operation.
In an earlier operation, a cooperating source allegedly managed to buy $40 worth of “ice” from Camacho at the latter’s house on Capitol Hill. Camacho then said she wanted to assist law enforcers as a confidential informant. The Department of Public Safety agreed to release her without cash bail and sealed the case.
Baisley said that Camacho cooperated with one drug buy operation but has not assisted law enforcers since then. The case was unsealed and Camacho’s release was revoked, resulting in her re-arrest.
