The Marianas Tourism Education Council and Marianas Visitors Authority have gained two new industry representatives as board members this school year.

Catherine Perry Harris, owner of Integrity Communications, and Glenn Policare, director of Operations of Kanoa Resort, were both recently nominated and approved to join the board of the educational organization.

Perry Harris has been involved in local media and public relations for over two decades, including spearheading public relations and making school presentations with MTEC for the last several years.

“Teaching the students about tourism along with chairwoman Vicky Benavente and the Marianas Visitors Authority has been very rewarding, especially as we’ve see the steady growth of knowledge among the students through the years. The best part is when their faces light up with understanding and enthusiasm for the subject,” said Perry Harris. “I’m grateful to now join the board and look forward to continuing to support its objective, teaching how ‘tourism is everybody’s business.’”

Policare has many years of experience in the hotel industry, most recently as the SEA director at Pacific Islands Club Saipan and now as the director of Operations at Kanoa Resort.

“I am so excited to start working with the board,” said Policare. “I have learned so much in my new position here. With that knowledge and the opportunity to work with such a great team, I am excited for the future of the CNMI.

“I have already had a chance to speak to some of the MY WAVE students and have met with the [advisers] as well,” he added. “There is so much interest in the opportunities in hospitality and tourism. It is our job to make sure these kids are steered in the right direction with the proper tools, training and education.” (MTEC)
