Minor sexually abused since 13 gives birth
Judge imposes $100K cash bail on 39-year-old suspect
A minor gave birth to a premature baby at the Commonwealth Health Center last Tuesday after she was allegedly sexually abused by a 39-year-old man since she was 13.
Ruben Atalig Corpuz Jr. was arrested last week for sexual abuse of a minor, assault and battery, and disturbing the peace.
Corpuz allegedly confessed that he did have sex with the minor, who lives in Kagman 3.
The police report did not mention how old the girl is now.
Police said the victim’s mother apparently only discovered the sexual abuse after the victim was taken to the hospital for stomachache last week. While there, she was found to be eight months pregnant and was about to give birth. She later gave birth.
At a hearing on Friday, Superior Court Associate Judge Joseph N. Camacho imposed a $100,000 cash bail for Corpuz’s temporary release. Preliminary hearing will be on Dec. 1 at 9am.
Assistant public defender Cindy Nesbit was appointed as counsel for Corpuz. Assistant attorney general Heather Barcinas appeared for the government.
Police said the victim told two police officers at the hospital that the father of her child is Corpuz. According to the girl, Corpuz has been forcing her to have sex with him since she was just 13 years old—the last time was just last month when she apparently was still pregnant.
The girl said she never told her mother about the abuse because she was scared of Corpuz. She said she feels disgusted whenever Corpuz would sexually abuse her.
